Introduction
Useful information about some of the stuff we get up to!
If you want to try new and exciting activities, enjoy the outdoors in County Durham and further afield, socialise and make new friends, give something back to the local community and have a lot of fun doing it then we are the society for you! Everyone is welcome, not just Scouts and Guides, all you need is a love of adventure!.
That might sound like a tall order to begin with, so I’ll explain a bit more…
What we get up to

We’re a fun loving society who’ll try just about anything our members want to do – if you can’t decide what you want to do while you’re at uni, or don’t know how you’re going to find the time to fit it all in, then look no further.
Socials: We meet every Sunday evening to have a catch-up and pub quiz over a drink and pizza. Every term we also normally have two college bar crawls, and however more social events as our members want to do, such as a campfire or safari supper.
Activities: As Scouts and Guides we all have a love for adventure. We have nights away every term, with an introductory Freshers’ Camp around the end of October, and a summer camp further afield after exams. Other activities are likely to include walking, climbing and water activities.
Volunteering: As well as having fun for ourselves we work with the Scouts and Guides in the local community. We organise and run two large incident hike competitions (one for Explorers and Rangers, and the other for Scouts and Guides) and an indoor skills competition for Scouts. We also help out with events run by the local Scout and Guide groups, and at the local Scout campsite Moor House. If you’re interested in volunteering with a local Group on a more regular basis, our Liasons Officers can put you in contact with the right people.
What to Pack

If you’re packing to move to Durham then here’s a few useful things to get you started:
- Waterproof coat
- Walking boots (or other suitable shoes)
- Sleeping bag
- Roll mat
Don’t worry if you forget or don’t have these things, we can usually rustle up spares!
